Most people and their pets experience the occasional fever.  Most fevers are the result of transient viral and bacterial   infections that may or may not require treatment. Veterinary consultation is recommended.Fevers may also be the result of an unknown factor. Finding the origins of an unknown fever can be difficult.  Some animals may even have genetic reasons for their illness.  For example, these pets may suffer from chronic bacterial infection due to a genetically weak immune system. You should consult your veterinarian as soon as possible to determine the exact nature of your pet’s illness.
Common Misconceptions
Many individuals believe that giving their pet asprin will help cure it of a fever.  This is not true. In fact, aspirin may actually cause serious harm to your animal, as will many other methods used for treating humans humans. Always check with your veterinarian before deciding to medicate your sick pet.
Some simple fever remedies are as follows:

  • Wash your pet’s belly with a cool washcloth
  • Give your pet a cool bath
  • Wrap your pet in a cool towel
  • Always give your pet plenty of water
